Hello hello!

Thank you for being here. And if you’re contemplating switching to a low waste lifestyle in India, welcome. Even if you’re just curious, hello!

Who am I?

I’m Avanti. I live in Bombay, India and I'm 30.

What am I doing?

In 2018, I decided that I was done being indifferent to the ever-so-often Whatsapp/Facebook forwards of plastic ridden oceans and sea animals affected by poor waste disposal.

Here are some that really triggered me: Turtle with a straw

An eye-opening art installation, which I worked on bringing to India: Plastic Ocean by Tan Xi.

I wanted to do my little bit to not add to the waste problem. I binge watched as many zero waste Youtubers as I could, read blogs and realized that there were so few that were India-centric. Here are some of my favourite low-waste pages - Ullisu by Mridula, Conscious Chokri

How am I doing it?

I decided to take some baby steps. My first ever swap was reusable produce bags. Slowly, I started being more and more cognizant of anything and everything that came plastic packaged.

Going low waste is really a lifestyle because you re-evaluate so many choices. Every single thing I consumed, I broke down in my head and rethought.

This blog is an attempt to document my efforts, provide resources for people, and keep myself accountable for the waste I am putting out into the world.

What is a low waste lifestyle?

When we create waste, if not handled responsibly, it ends up in landfills or incinerators. This disposal of waste emits gases that pollute the environment and in turn, make our air unsanitary.

As a solution to sending less to landfills, living a low-waste lifestyle is a way to reduce what you consume, and responsibly dispose of what we do consume.

Want to start going low waste?

Great. I hope this blog helps you, even in the tiniest way.

See how you can incorporate the smallest changes into your own lifestyle. Go in with the mindset that the problem is not as herculean as it seems. The smallest change will go much longer than you think.

There are tons of videos on the internet that tell you how to make sustainable switches. I talk about these changes from an Indian perspective on this blog, and on Instagram too.
